Comments about life and living
I graduated from Capital Beauty Academy in July of 1966. I worked at Stacy Hair Fashions & I used Bev Smith's mom as a model for that job!
Nick and I were married (actually we eloped) and moved to Killeen, TX. where he was stationed at Fort Hood. Big place! What a life changer that was. I learned how to stretch a dollar in a big hurry. Can't say I liked Tx much. Nick got his orders to go to Vietnam. This was a real blow. He was the only one called up in his battalion to go.
I wasn't sad to come home.... I was expecting our first child and wanted to
be home with my family.
We welcomed our daughter Michelle on July 25, 1967.
Nick has his R&R in October of 1967, and we met for a week in Hawaii. It was the first time I had ever flown and I was a bit apprehensive. The crew were all very nice and sat and talked with me.
It was wonderful and beautiful and heartbreaking. I hated to say goodbye.
Who knew if I would see him again? These are the thoughts of all wives.
The Tet offensive was horrible for those guys. Luckily, Nick made it home with no physical injuries........PTSD has been rough. We live with it everyday. He is much better now then he was.
In the years that followed we had 2 more daughters. They are all wonderful and have families of their own. We are blessed with 8 grands,
6 boys and 2 girls. They are teenagers and young adults. 2 have graduated from college, 1 graduated from HS this year. We are a very close family and spend a week together every summer camping.
I am currently working for the State of Mi and plan to retire in Jan of 2017.
