John Nordrum (Still Alive In 2015)

John Nelson Nordrum, son of John Nelson (1904-1991) and Mary Marie (Stump) (1906-1999) Nordrum, was born 15 April 1935 in Michigan. John's father was a Chiropractor for many years in the Charlevoix, Charlevoix County, Michigan area, after having graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic at Davenport, Iowa.  His namesake, John Nelson Jr. graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1953 and was in the 1957 class at the US Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Port, New York.  He went on to receive B. A. and M. A. degrees from MIchigan State University.

RUBY GREMEL, JOHN NORDRUM TO WED JULY 2 AT SEBEWAING

  Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gremel of Sebewaing announce the engagement of their daughter, Ruby, to John Nordrum of Okemos, son of Dr. and Mrs. John Nordrum of Alpena.

   The bride-to-be received her B. A., A. B.  and Ph. D. degrees at Central Teachers college and Illinois State college.  She was affiliated with Theta Pi.  She will teach school at Sexton high school next fall.

   The bridegroom received his B. A., M. A. and Ph. D. degrees at Michigan State University.  He is the superintendent of the new Okemos high school.

   A July 2 wedding is being planned for the Lutheran church in Sebewaing.  Following their wedding the couple will reside in East Lansing.

U-SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR IS ENGAGED

   Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gremel of Sebewaing, Mich. have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ruby Gremel, Carbondale, to John Nordrum of East Lansing, Mich.

   Miss Gremel is an instructor at University High School in Carbondale.  She plans an early summer wedding.

   She and Mr. Nordrum are 1953 graduates of Sebewaing High School.  Miss Gremel holds degrees from Central Michigan University and the University of Illinois.  Mr. Nordrum is studying for his master's degree at Michigan State University. 

John Nordrum Jr. taught only a short season at OHS before moving on to Charles M. Russell High School in Great Falls, Montana.  He taught there for 20 plus years.  He and Ruby were still living in Montana as of 2015.

PLEASE NOTE:  Mr. Nordrum was never Superintendent at Okemos.  This was either a misunderstanding by the State Journal reporter or a typo.  Mr. Nordrum was a mathamatics teacher only.
