Margaret L. Hoke (Conley) - Class Of 1944

Margaret L. Hoke, daughter of Ernest Joseph (1896-1953) and Sylvia Mae (Root) (1898-1974) Hoke, was born 6 December 1924 Mason, Ingham County, Michigan.  She attended Okemos High school with the class of 1944.  She married Lt. Lewis James Conley and was living in Tariff, West Virginia in September 1944.

BIRTHS

A son, Denton Lewis, was born September 27 to Lieut. and Mrs. Lewis Conley of Tariff, W. Va.  Mrs. Conley is the former Margaret Hoke of 708 Jessup avenue, Lansing.

Lt. Conley was a career military officer serving from 1941-1964 in the US Air Force and rising to the rank of Major.  He served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam.  He was a graduate of Glenville State College, West Virginia and Michigan State University.  Lewis, born 17 March 1918 Tariff, Roane County, West Virginia, died unexpectedly 2 March 1999 San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.

Margaret died 15 November 2011 Hastings, Barry County, Michigan.  Lewis and Margaret were interred East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos, Ingham County.

Margaret L. Conley Lansing Age 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on November 5, 2011 in Hastings, Michigan. She was born December 6, 1924 in Mason, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Major Lewis J. Conley; her son Larry J. Conley; her parents, Ernest and Sylvia (Root) Hoke; and three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her children: Denton (Karen) Conley of Holt, Ronald (Jane) Conley of Portland, Cynthia (Jimmy) Shidaker of Stockbridge and Linda (John) Underwood of Hastings. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and brother Ernest "Pete" Hoke of Lansing. Margaret worked as a beautician for many years in Lansing, but her real passion was her family. She loved the camping trips and holiday gatherings they had together. She and Lewis traveled throughout the U.S. in their motor home. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will be in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos, Michigan. Friends and relatives may visit Margaret's family on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Pennock Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association .
