Vernon Glenn Richey - Class Of 1944

Vernon Glenn Richey, son of Glenn Lewis (1895-1979) and Ruth (Schleicher) (1901-1943) Richey, was born 2 May 1926 Holt, Ingham County, Michigan.  Vernon graduated in 1944 from Okemos High School.  Upon graduation he immediately entered the US Army and served for the duration of World War II. After the war he furthered his education with a degree from Michigan State College and worked for the State of Michigan Highway Department for three decades.  Vernon died 5 February 2005 in Houston, Harris County, Texas and was interred Chapel Hill Memorial Garden, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.

GRAND LEDGE, MI

Mr. Vernon G. Richey, age 78, passed away February 5, 2004, in Houston, TX.  He was a retired Highway Design Engineer for the State of Michigan Highway Dept., with 30 years of service, graduate of Michigan State University and a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army.  Vernon was committed to his family and church, serving as Sunday School teacher, boys brigade leader, chairman of advisory board, small group leader, deacon and elder at the Grand Ledge Baptist Church.  He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ethel; 4 children, Ronald Glenn (Nancy) of Houston, TX, Janice Kay (Herman) VanEck of Reed City, Lori Sue (Michael) Mullins of Charlotte, Susan Joy (Michael) Michelakis of Kentwood; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Fred (Arlene) of Mason, Douglas (Dorothy) of Mason, Bruce (Margaret) of Grand Ledge, Garth (Janice) of CA; sisters, Violet Richey of Grand Ledge, Virginia (Merle) Butrick of Charlotte.  He was predeceased by his brother, Clare, and sister, Crystal Schermerhorn.  Funeral services will be held Friday, February 11, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at the Grand Ledge Baptist Church, 1120 Willow Hwy., with Pastor Jeff Gaskill and Pastor Andrew Ford officiating.  Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing.
