Gerald G. Blomquist - Class Of 1961 VIEW PROFILE

Gerald G. Blomquist, age 74, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Mercy Ann Arbor. He was born January 21, 1943 in Paris, Tennessee, the son of Gail “Tony” and Catherine “Kay” (Howard) Blomquist. He married Carol Eager on April 26, 1963. As a youth, Jerry was active in the Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Okemos High School and Michigan State University. He served his country in the United States Army Reserve, retiring after twenty-five years with the rank of Major-Field Artillery. In addition, he worked for eighteen years at Oldsmobile, followed by a career in sales, service, and security. Jerry served the Masonic Fraternity for 53 years. In his younger years, he joined the Masonic Youth group of DeMolay and gained the rank of Chevalier. When he became of age, he joined his father as a member of Okemos Lodge #252, serving as their Worshipful Master in the 1984 to 1985 Masonic Year. He became a Scottish Rite Mason, joining the Valley of Bay City in 1974, receiving the 32nd Degree that year, and followed that by joining his father in the Elf Khurafeh Shrine. After moving to Howell from Okemos, Jerry joined Howell Lodge #38 and served in any capacity that was needed. He was also a member of Howell Chapter #372 Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron in 1981 to 1982. He served as a Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes representative to seven lodges in what was then District #17 and became affiliated with all those lodges. Jerry served those lodges from 2009 to 2012, when he was elected Grand Tiler of the Grand Lodge of Michigan, serving in that office until his passing. Jerry was a Charter Member and past Monarch of Yubba Grotto MOVPER and was instrumental in obtaining their Charter in 1992, serving as their Secretary/Treasurer for many years until being elected to the office of Grand Tiler. In addition to his Masonic participation, Jerry also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage, wintering in Florida, and family get-togethers. Surviving are his wife of fifty-four years, Carol; his daughters, Cindy (Steve) Hoeft and Sandra (Mike Bergin) Blomquist; his three grandchildren, Jacob and Madison Hoeft and Devin O’Shaughnessy; his sister, Ann (Robert) Helmic; his brother-in-law, Robert (Kathleen) Eager; nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents and an infant daughter. A Masonic memorial service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at MacDonald's Funeral Home, Howell (517-546-2800). Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation.
