Gerald R. "Jerry" Marshall, only child and son of Marion H. (1905-1973) and Esther M. (Avery) (1909-1986) Marshall, was born 2 August 1943 Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1961 from Okemos High School and went on to graduate from Michigan State University.  Jerry died 21 June 2008 and was interred near his parents in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Delta Township, Eaton County, Michigan.

GERALD K. MARSHALL "JERRY"

LANSING, MI

Age 64, passed away on June 21 2008.  He was born on August 2, 1943 in Lansing, where he lived all of his life.  Jerry was a Lansing radio personality, known as the voice of Spartan Hockey for 35 years.  His voice was heard on WJIM, WFMK and WILS.  He had also been an announcer for MSU basketball, baseball, marching band, wrestling, women's gymnastics and women's softball.  Jerry was a member of the Blue Line Club, Downtown Coach's Club, Rebounder's Club, EAT Club, MSU Honorary Coach's Club and President's Club, and attended the Greenbush United Methodist Church.  He graduated from Okemos High School and Michigan State University, where he was a member of the MSU Marching Band.  Jerry was also a member of The DOOWOPS singing group,  Surviving are: Marty Coates; daughter, Terri Marshall; and special aunt, Beulah Wood.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Esther Marshall.  The funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Tuesday, June 24, 2008 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI 48933.  Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens.

Jerry's father was a "larger-than-life" man.  I still remember his booming voice and large stature!  Jerry, even as a youngster, was a chip off the old block.  To see that he became a radio personality fit my memory of him perfectly.  And Jerry's Mom was such a nice lady.
