Laurel Winkel (1968)

Paula was a dear friend, partner to Patti Lyon and me in many high school shenanigans. Gaining use of her mom's F-88 on a Friday night gave us free rein to roam Okemos during our innocent escapades. Many years after graduation, Paula reminded me of a high school party in the Linnell's basement involving a ouija board. When it was her turn, we laughed at the resulting nonsensical spelling of "humboldt", having never seen the word before. Years later, Humboldt, California became her new home, where her career and her daughter were both born. Paula not only enjoyed being a nurse, she was also pleased to share her knowledge with others on their path to becoming a nurse. She became a Nurse Practitioner before moving with her daughter Shonie, back to Michigan to be closer to her ailing mom. It was a pleasure to spend time with Paula when she came back to Michigan. I will miss our hours of thoughtful conversation, the years falling away through the laughter of youthful silliness. Rest well, our dear friend, you are missed.
