Geoffrey Louis "Geoff" Gessert - Class Of 1992

Geoffrey Louis "Geoff" Gessert, son of Gregory L. and Ann L. (Littleton) Gessert, was born 19 June 1974, Flint, Genesee County, Michigan.  His parents were later divorced.  Geoff graduated in 1992 from Okemos High School and later from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana.  He was pursuing a career with Menasha Corporation and was employed at their plant in Greenville, Montcalm County, Michigan.  Geoff was killed in an auto accident 29 July 2000.  He was interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos, Ingham County, Michigan.

Geoffrey L. Gessert, 26, of Gowen, died when the car he was driving was involved in a rollover accident in Montcalm County's Eureka at 1:56 a.m. Saturday.  He was wearing a seat belt.

Age 26, born June 19, 1974 in Flint, MI.  Geoff is the beloved son of Ann L. (Littleton) Gessert and Gregory L. Gessert of Meridian Township.  Geoff was a graduate of Okemos High School in 1992.  At Okemos High, Geoffrey was on the state Championship Tennis Team his junior and senior years.  Geoff was also on the Okemos freshman golf team and was very active in Campus Life, a Christina youth ministry.  Geoff graduated from Purdue University in 1996, with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Management.  At Purdue, Geoff was active in a number of groups, including the Kappa Sigma Fraternity as Vice President, Secretary, and Pledge Trainer, the Karnnert School of Management Mentor Program, the Purdue Roller-Hockey team and WLAY as a disc jockey.  While at Purdue he also was a volunteer for the Salvation Army and the American Cancer Society.  He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church of East Lansing.  Geoff enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, pool, darks, music, hiking, skiing and his dog, Kasey.  Geoff worked for American Plastic Toys Inc. in 1994 as an assembly working and quality control.  After graduation from Purdue Geoff began working for Menasha Corporation in Coloma, MI in 1996.  He as Plant Supervisor at the Menasha Plant in Greenville at the time of his death.  He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Arnold in 1991.  Also surviving are the 2 sisters, Kristen C. Gessert of Maplewood, MN and Kimberly N. Gessert of Minneapolis, MN; grandmother, Ruth Littleton of Birmingham, MI; grandparents, Walter and Betty (Scharfenburg) Gessert of Ypsilanti, and his many friends.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2780 Haslett Road, East Lansing, with the Rev. Patrick S. Fodor, Pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.
