Charles Martin "Chuck" Cooper - Class Of 1939 VIEW PROFILE

Charles Martin "Chuck" Cooper, son of Arthur Bement (1893-1960) and Helen R. (Dietz) (1897-1983) Cooper, was born 28 May 1920 in Jackson, Michigan.  He graduated from Okemos High School in 1939 and served in the US Navy during World War II.  On 27 October 1939 in Steuben County, Indiana, Chuck married OHS classmate Melba May McCullough.  The marriage was short-lived.  They divorced 10 August 1940.  In 1945 he married, in Dade County, Florida, Lenore Lamb and the couple had 5 daughters.  Chuck died 25 July 2005.

   Charles M. Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Cooper, R. 4, Mason recently graduated from the aviation machinist's mate school, Jacksonville, Fla., one of the high rankers of his class, advancing to petty officer rating as an aviation machinist's mate, third class.

   Enlisting in the navy in October 1941, Cooper went to Newport, R. I., for recruit training prior to transfer to Jacksonville.

COOPER, CHARLES M.

OKEMOS, MI

Charles Martin Cooper was born in Jackson, Michigan, to Arthur B. and Helen (Dietz) Cooper on May 28, 1920.  They moved to the Dietz-Cooper homestead in Alaiedon Township where he attended Sandhill Elementary School and graduated from Okemos High School.  Charles was a WWII Veteran. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate on Esperitu Santo Island in the Pacific.  He retired from General Motors in 1975, and was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Oldsmobile, the Salaried Retirees Club, Oldsmobile Outdoor Club and a member of the Williamston Center United Methodist Church.  He was an avid woodworker after his retirement and left many handmade items to his children and grandchildren.  He married Lenore Lamb in 1945, and they lovingly raised 5 daughters, Kathleen (Bruce) Medaugh of Battle Creek, Suzanne (James) Lundy of Onondaga, Christine (Dean) Hitchcock of Mason, Candice (Paul) Greinke of Allendale and Lenore (Steve) Wieschowski of Mason.  He adored his grandchildren, Christine, Sean, Elizabeth, Jon, Richard, Sonia, Kyle, Anna, Steven, Cameron, Branden and great-granddaughter, Talia.  He was very proud of and enjoyed his siblings, Mary (Phillip) Abbott of Mulliken, JoAnn (Norman) Wells of Okemos, Arthur (Julia) Cooper of Okemos, Richard (Joy) Cooper of Lowell, Robert (Judy) Cooper of Laingsburg, sister-in-law, Betty of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.  He joined his parents and brother, Kenneth in heaven on July 25, 2005.
