Edward L. Murdock (1946-1951 Superintendent)

Edward L. Murdock, son of John Lyman (1853-1925) and Maria (Rodgers) (1859-1936) Murdock, was born 5 June 1904 in Michigan.  He graduated in 1931 from Western State Teachers College, now Western Michigan University, with a BS degree.  Edward began his teaching career in the Three Oaks school, Berrien County, Michigan.  On 10 August 1933 Edward married Margaret Marie Payne in Berrien County.

COUNTY SCHOOL CHIEFS ELECT NEW PRESIDENT

Edmund Eccles, superintendent of the New Troy schools, was elected president of the Berrien County School Superintendents' association at the organization's dinner meeting Monday night at Holly's Grill, St. Joseph.

He will replace School Commissioner Edward Murdock as head of the association.  Murdock has resigned his office, effective at the end of the current school term, to take a position as head of the Okemos, Mich., schools.

Superintendent Murdock lead the Okemos school system from 1946 until 1951.

OKEMOS SENIOR CLASS IS HONORED AT DANCE

OKEMOS, May 18 - The Okemos high school junior class honored members of the senior class and their guests at a banquet and dance at the gym Saturday night.

Elayne Wright presented the program.  Lloyd Lowery gave the welcome.  Kenneth Pannabecker responded and Supt. Edward Murdock gave the faculty greeting.

Chairmen of the student committees were Nancy Hicks, Elayne Wright and Mackie Black.

GIVE EX-OKEMOS SCHOOL HEAD FAREWELL PARTY

OKEMOS, July 2 - The Edward Murdock family moved this last weekend to their new home in Big Rapids where Mr. Murdock assumes the superintendency of school, July 1.

Last week the Community church honored them at a farewell party and presented the family with a new Revised edition of the New Testament.  Several other parties were held in their honor by various community groups in the past month.

EAU CLAIRE, Dec. 21 - Orra Morningstar, superintendent of Eau Claire schools since 1951, has submitted his resignation to the Eau Claire school board.

Morningstar will become superintendent of schools at Chesaning, a  village of 2,500 located 25 miles northwest of Flint. A class B school, Chesaning has 1,000 students and 38 faculty members.  Eau Claire has 538 students and faculty of 20.

The resignation asked that he be released from his Eau Claire contract on Jan. 15.

The present superintendent of Chesaning schools, Edward Murdock, former Berrien county school commissioner, said he will leave his post at Chesaning on Dec. 31 to join Whirlpool-Seeger corporation as a recruiter of college graduates for the corporation.

Edward Murdock died 7 December 1989 St. Joseph, Berrien County.  His wife, Margaret, born 7 Aug 1914 Michigan, died 9 September 2009 in Fairfax, Fairfax County, Virginia.  Edward and Margaret were interred Galien Township Cemetery, Berrien County, Michigan.
