Comments about life and living

Let me start by saying that I really should have graduated with the class of '61. My birthday was
just before the cut-off date, and after a few weeks, my teacher, Mrs. McKinley, and my parents
decided to hold me back a year.

I started with the class of '62 in the basement of the old Baptist Church on Moore St. I never
really did much in school, and the day after we graduated I began working at the Texaco station
next to the Tastee Freeze in E. Lansing. Three months of pumping gas was enough, and I found
a better job with a civil engineering company that was building the sewer system for Meridian
Township. My boss talked me into at least thinking about going to school ,and with the help
of Thelma Lamb and the urging of my parents, I started at Michigan State in the fall of'63 and
graduated spring of '68.

One day in the fall of '64 the Meridian Fire Dept. had a large brush and grass fire that got so bad
they called for help from the National Guard. I stopped by the station on my way home from
classes to see if they needed any help -- 30 years later I retired as a lieutenant - being a firefighter
was never in my plans!

After I retired I moved to Dallas and opened a Two Men And A Truck franchise that my partners
and I ran from Jan. of '95 until last October when we sold out. Now I really am retired. I have
been married and divorced twice and have a daughter, Jessica, who lives in Traverse City with
her husband Pat and my grandson, Henry.
