Comments about life and living

I went to MSU and received a degree in anthropology in 1966. I was in Army ROTC and joined the Pershing Rifles group. My junior year I ran the pledge classes. In late 1966 I was sent to the Army Engineer Officer School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Then I went to Vietnam for 1967 near Pleiku in the Central Highlands. I was the Engineer battalion Civil Affairs Officer for the last part of my tour. I worked with Montangard tribesmen and one village of formerly North Vietnamese. They were Catholic and went south.

I started an MBA program at San Diego State and switched to Library Science at the University of Southern California. I worked for Long Beach and Los Angeles cities, both in the Science area. Along the way I picked up a certificate in computer programming just before Microsoft Windows. Oops, that was followed by a flock of computer languages, HTML and Cascading Style Sheets. I am glad I stayed with being a librarian. The computer skills were useful in . getting hired, my work assignments and helping patrons. I married Lucille in 1971. We have one daughter, Lisa, and two grandchildren. The boy is in the Marine Corps at Twenty-nine Palms, California (a big base/bombing range out in the
desert) and the girl will be a high school junior next fall. We are living with our daughter and granddaughter. It is an experience, but nice as we all need each other from time to time.

We retired about three years ago and moved from Long Beach, Ca to Wildwood, Mo. We used the Pod company. They had more wood in their containers, which was useful for tying things down. Wildwood is at the West end of St. Louis County. We enjoy the area, but we sure notice the global warming. Our daughter moved to Missouri twenty years ago. We visited at different times of the year to make sure we could adjust to the climate. Air conditioning is necessary. All the stores we like are in the area. The woodworking stores are closer than in LA, but the good lumber is further out.

The Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis is wonderful. Just perfect for an old couple to wander through. Warning: in the cool of the morning the handicapped parking is full.
