Shirley E. Hawley (Greenier) - Class Of 1941

Shirley E. Hawley, daughter of Homer (1890-1970) and Bertha (Wells) (1895-1960) Hawley, was born 27 July 1922 Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.  Homer and Bertha, married 1915, were divorced in 1928.  Bertha charged, "extreme cruelty" and was granted absolute divorce and custody of the two children. Bertha married Louis A. Washburn (1883-1953) and he raised Shirley.  Shirley graduated from Okemos High School in 1941

Shirley was married twice; George Elver Thompson (1921-2013) and Mervin J. Greenier.  Mervin, born 12 May 1927, and Shirley were married in 1947.  Mervin was a plumber by trade.  Shirley died 14 July 2003.  Mervin died 18 January 2012.  They were interred Gunnisonville Cemetery, Gunnisonville, Clinton County, Michigan.

GREENIER, SHIRLEY E.

LANSING, MI

Born July 27, 1922, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, went to be with her Lord Monday, July 14, 2003, at the age of 80.  She was a resident of the Lansing area most of her life and was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her 2 daughters and sister, Ruth Swan.  Surviving are her husband, Mervin Greenier; daughter, Patricia (David) Peabody; 3 grandchildren, David (Kerry) Peabody, Lisa (Dan VanValin) and Marc (Robin) Peabody; 5 great-grandchildren, Karis, Kadin, Koren, Tony and Megan; special friend, Arletta Shank; brother-in-law, Thurman Goebel; many nieces, nephews, and many other family members.  Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, with the Rev. David Leisman Pastor of Valley Farms Baptist Church, officiating.  Interment will follow in Gunnisonville Cemetery.
