Edmund Carl "Carl" Mandenberg - Class Of 1941

Edmund Carl "Carl" Mandenberg Jr., son of Edmund Carl "E. C." (1887-1939) and Estelle Margaret (Hawkins) (1895-971) Mandenberg, was born 18 January 1924 Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  E. C. Mandenberg was head of the nursery division of the Michigan State Department of Agriculture from 1922-1939.

Carl graduated in 1941 from Okemos High School.

Other Okemos-ites at the dance were Carl Mandenberg, home from his marine station at U. of M., and Ruth Woodworth and Bob Mandenberg, who is to be initiated into S. A. E. fraternity before leaving with the naval air corps in the near future.

Carl joined the US Marines in 1943 and served until 1946.  He was called up for service again during the Korean conflict, serving  1951-1952. He married Margaret E. MacKichan in 1949. They later divorced.

Note:  Margaret E. MacKichan's brother, Lt. Willima Graham "Bud" MacKichan, was native to the East Lansing/Lansing area.  Lt. MacKichan died when his bomber crashed in a raid over Germany March 1944.  He was 23.

MANDENBERG - First Lt. Edmund C. Mandenberg, 3602 Marigold ave., husband of Margaret E. Mandenberg and son of Mrs. E. C. Mandenberg, is taking the second specialist junior course of the marine corps at Quantico, Va.  A World War II veteran, Lt. Mandenberg served as a machine gun platoon commander of the Third Marine division in Guam, and with the motor transport office, Seventh Service regiment in China.  A former student of Okemos high School, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and Michigan state college, Lt. Mandenberg entered the service in December 1942, and received his commission of second lieutenant on May 23, 1945.  Prior to going into service he was assistant tot eh purchasing agent of Michigan state college.

Mandenberg - Capt. Edmund C. Mandenberg, husband of Mrs. Margaret E. Mandenberg, 617 Hillcrest st., East Lansing, and son of Mrs. E. C. Mandenberg, 2253 Hamilton rd., Okemos, was recently awarded the commendation ribbon with combat "V."  The commendation was for excellent service with a marine service battalion during operations against the enemy in Korea from March 15 to Oct. 27, 1952.  He was assistant logistics officer and later logistics officer of the battalion.

FORMER MSU MAN GET PROMOTION

Carl Mandenberg, 37, formerly of Okemos and an employee for 11 years, until 1960, in the purchasing department at Michigan State university, has been named material chief for Martin company in Wichita, Kan.

Since leaving M.S.U., where he graduated, Mandenberg, has been in purchasing with the Martin firm, first in Denver, Colo., then in Wichita.

In his new post he will supervise purchasing, sub-contracts, material handling and similar projects in the activation of a missile weapon system at the Wichita-McConnell air force base.

His mother, Mrs. Estelle Mandenberg, lives at 2253 Hamilton rd., Okemos.

2 PROMOTED

Wichita, Kan. - The Gates Learjet Corporation has announced promotion of two management employes to vice presidential positions.

Executive Vice President W.M. Conlin said A.F. Green was made manufacturing vice president and E.C. Mandenberg was made vice president of material.

Carl married a lady named Millie, born 9 November 1940.  Carl died in Arkansas 4 May 1991.  He was interred in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas.
