Eleanor L. Smith, daughter of Otto Lewis (1888-1976) and Martha (Jacks) (1888-1973) Smith, was born 18 May 1922 Michigan. She graduated in 1939 from Okemos High School as co-valedictorian of the class, sharing honors with Nestorine Ruth Potier. Eleanor had an all "A" record for her 4 high school years.
She married Clayton Dale Otis 13 July 1940 East Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan. Clayton was an Army veteran of World War II. He was born 11 November 1918 Ingham County and died 2 May 1996 Ingham County

EAST LANSING
Born November 11, 1918 in Lansing; died May 2, 1996 at the age of 77. Mr. Otis was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the 9th AAA Gun Battalion, Battery "D", in Hawaii and Okinawa. He was employed at M.S.U. as an electrician for 39 years and was a founding member of the Haslett Community church. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Lilah Honeywell. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Eleanor L.' 3 daughter, Martha (Mike) Devlin of Haslett, Mary Krueger of Northville, Diane (Greg) Wade of Okemos; 5 grandchildren, Amy Devlin, John (Wendy) Devlin, Elizabeth and Rebecca Krueger, Eric Wade; 1 great granddaughter, Abbey Nicole Devlin; 1 brother, Max (Bea) of Haslett; 2 sisters, Alta and Mildred Otis, both of East Lansing. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand Rive, East Lansing, with the Rev. Dr. Lionel Miles, Pastor of Haslett Community Church and the Rev. Robert Frederick officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.
As of 2016 Eleanor was living in the Okemos/East Lansing area.
