Wayne Elsworth Shields - Class Of 1939

Wayne Elsworth Shields, son of Forest S. (1898-1977) and Glenna Dell (Knapp) (1908-1979) Shields, was born 18 November 1920 Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  He only attended Okemos High School for 3 years but would have graduated in the class of 1939.

Wayne joined the US Army 25 August 1941, listing 3 years of high school education, weighing 141 pounds and measuring 72 inches in height.  He was assigned to the Coast Artillery Corps.

FURLOUGHS

SHIELDS - Pfc. Wane E. Shields, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Shields, Route 2, and husband of Mrs. Yvonne Shields, of Williamston, was recently home on a 20-day furlough after serving two-and-one-half years in the canal Zone.  Private Shields returned to Indianapolis, Ind., to be assigned to his new station.  He enlisted with the army anti-aircraft August 25, 1941, and remained in the United States just 20 days after his enlistment.

Wayne married Dorothy Yvonne Wolcott 15 January 1944 Williamston.  The couple later divorced.  Wayne died 24 July 1989 Lansing.
