Maynard Eberly (1953 Sch Bd Pres)

Maynard A. Eberly, son of Alonzo E. *1878-1957) and Lucile R. (Scahlon) (1873-1936) Eberly, was born 20 June 1908, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1927 from Okemos High School. 

Maynard married divorcee Helen Ella (Russell) Estelle, 28 January 1937, Steuben County, Indiana.  They listed on the wedding license their occupations as, "service station manager" and "nurse R.N."

CHARGES HUSBAND WAS FRIENDLY WITH WOMEN

Charging that her husband, Max Estelle, was too friendly with other women, Mrs. Helen Estelle filed a bill of complaint for divorce in the county clerk's office here Wednesday.  The couple, married in 1929, separated July 21, 1931.  Mrs. Estelle is a nurse.

MARRIAGE ANNOUNCED

Mr. and Mrs. John Rusell of Grand Ledge announce the marriage of their daughter, Mrs. Helen Estelle, to Maynard Eberly.  The marriage took place January 28 at Angola, Ind.  Mr. Eberly is the son of A. e. Eberly, Okemos.  Mr. and Mrs. Eberly are now spending a month in Los Angeles, Cal.  Upon their return they will be at  home at 521 North Chestnut street.

Maynard and Helen had 3 children and celebrated 40 years of marriage.  Maynard died 5 August 1977, Ingham County.  Helen, born 28 June 1907, died 24 March 1999.  Maynard and Helen were interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos, Ingham County.

Age 69, died August 5, 1977.  Born June 20, 1908 in Okemos.  Mr. Eberly was a lifelong resident of Okemos and was a member of the Okemos Community church.  He was a Meridian Township Tax Assessor for 10 years retiring in 1973.  Prior to this time he was a member of the Lansing Board of Realtors, a member and past president of Okemos School Board, a Trustee for the Meridian Township Board and the former owner of the Eberly Business Service during World War II.  Surviving are his wife, Helen E.; 1 daughter Mrs. James (Mary Ellen) Sorber; 3 sons, Jan Estelle of East Lansing, John Eberly, East Lansing and Norman Eberly of Okemos; 8 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Royson (Genevieve) Eicher of Okemos and Mrs. Rhea Underwood of Grand Rapids and a half brother Marvin West of Big Rapids; several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will b held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, East Lansing with the Rev. Dr. John E. Cermak, Pastor of the Okemos Community Church officiating.  Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery.
