Arthur Henry "Art" Dorn - Class Of 1945

Arthur Henry "Art" Dorn, son of Henry (1885-1962) and Martha (Frederick) (1892-1987) Dorn, was born 23 July 1927 Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated from Okemos High School in 1945.

OKEMOS '11' DEFEATS HOLT HIGH, 12 TO 0

Holt, Oct 21 - Touchdowns in the first and third periods brought Okemos high school a 12-0 victory over Holt in an Ingham county game played here Friday afternoon.  The triumph have the Chiefs a records of two victories against two defeats and a tie in five games to date.

Max Kranz and Merlin Swab tallied the Chiefs' two touchdowns on short plunges, while Ed Sawaya, Art Dorn and Harold Reeves played a fine line game for Coach Arne Nelmark's charges.

Art was selected by Ingham County member coaches to the 1944 All County Football 2nd Team's right guard position.

Art was a career firefighter.  He died 5 February 2006, Michigan.

Dorn, Arthur H. "Art," 78, retired firefighter (Lansing), died Sunday.  Services 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lansing.  Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Age 78, passed away on February 5, 2006.   He was born on July 23, 1927 in Lansing and had lived in the Lansing area all of his life.  Mr. Dorn was proud to be a fire fighter with the Lansing Fire Department, where he worked for 27 years, retiring in 1985.   He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. 

Surviving are:  his wife of 57 years, Donna Yvonne;  son,  Ronald (Linda) Dorn of Mulliken;  2 granddaughters, Shelly and Tracy Dorn;  2 sisters, Eleanore Osborne of Okemos and Peg (Archie) Tarpoff of Haslett;  2 brothers, Fred (Eunice) Dorn of Florida and Robert ( Marlene) Dorn of Houghton Lake; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Vern and Peggy Foess of Eaton Rapids.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Martha Dorn. 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m.  Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church,  549 E. Mt. Hope, Lansing, with The Rev. James R. Lichtenberger and The Rev. Wayne J. Knockel officiating.  Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery in Mulliken.  

The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.  The Lansing Fire Department will provide the honor guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society in memory of Art Dorn.
