Beulah M. Butters (Monroe) - Class Of 1911

Beulah M. Butters, daughter of Albert (1867-1926) and Emma E. (Bellinger) (1870 Canada - 1939) Butters, was born 23 October 1893, Michigan.  Beulah had one sibling, Roy Richard, who was a 1906 graduate of Okemos High School.  Roy succumbed to pneumonia and meningitis in February 1911.  Beulah graduated from Okemos High School in 1911.

Beulah furthered her education with graduation from Acme Business School located in the Wolverine Building, Lansing.  She was then employed at REO Motor Car Company, Lansing, for many years.  Beulah married 20 October 1921, Okemos, Ingham County, George Albert Monroe.  The marriage license application listed George's occupation as painter and Beulah as a stenographer.

George, born 7 December 1894, Michigan, registered for the World War I Draft 5 June 1917 in Lansing.  He was employed as an assistant shipping clerk for National Coil Company, Lansing.  George was described as single, medium height, medium build with gray eyes and dark brown hair.

ANNOUNCE WEDDING DATE

Oct. 20 is the date chosen by Miss Beulah Butters, 1414 S. Washington ave., for her marriage to George Monroe.  The wedding will take place at the home of Miss Butters' parents at Okemos.  She will be attended by Miss Inez Milbourne.  Mr. Monroe has chosen Nat Schnively as best man.  Both young people have been employed at the Reo for several years.

MONROE-BUTTERS

The marriage of Miss Beulah Butters to George Monroe was solemnized Thursday noon at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Butters, Okemos.  Miss Butters was attended by Miss Inez Milbourne and Nat Schnively assisted Mr. Monroe.  After a luncheon served at the Butters home, the young people left for a wedding trip to Detroit.  They will live in Lansing where Mr. Monroe is employed at the Reo.

George died 28 April 1979, Lansing.  Buelah died 2 January 1983, Lansing.  They were interred Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.

MONROE, BEULAH M.

Age 89, died Jan. 2, 1983.  She was born October 23, 1893 in Okemos, the daughter of Albert and Emma Bellinger Butters.  Mrs. Monroe was a 1911 graduate of Okemos high School and later from Acme Business College.  Many years ago she worked for the Reo Motor Car Company and at the State Capitol.  She was a member of Faith Wesleyan Church.  Beulah Butters and George A. Monroe were united in marriage Oct. 20, 1922.  Mr. Monroe joined his Savior in April of 1979, and to the happiness of the children their parents are now joined together again.  Mrs. Monroe was dearly loved and will be missed by 3 surviving children, 1 daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Richard B, (Mildred) Sebrell of Lansing; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, George A. and Doris Monroe, Jr. of Laingsburg, Arnold I. and Phyllis Monroe of Lansing; grandma will be missed by 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; 2 cousins, Irma Canfield of Lansing and Arthur Butters of Saranac.  Funeral services will be held Wed. 11:30 a.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Boschee, Pastor and the Rev. Royal S. Woodhead, Pastor Emeritus of Faith Wesleyan Church officiating.  Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
