Axie Wolcott Daniels (Filkins) - Class Of 1910

Axie Wolcott Daniels, daughter of Myron Hobert (1851-1930) and Phoebe Ann (Hormish) (1862-1909) Daniels, was born 14 January 1894, Okemos, Ingham County, Michigan.  She graduated in 1910 from Okemos High School and in 1914 from Michigan Agricultural College (MAC later Michigan State College, Michigan State University) with a degree in home economics (Lansing State Journal, Saturday 23 May 1914 news article).

Axie married 16 July 1914, Lansing, Ingham County, Stanley Jay Filkins.  Stanley, born 1 September 1887, Oak Grove, Livingston County, Michigan, was employed as a time keeper for Nova Engine Company, Lansing.  He registered 5 June 1917 for the World War I Draft and was described as medium to short in height with a medium build, blue eyes and brown hair.

In 1921 Stanley, with partner R.S. Hudson, bought the East Lansing Hardware Store.

HARDWARE STORE PROPERTY SOLD

R.S. HUDSON AD STANLEY FILKINS BUY EAST LANSING BUSINESS

R.S. Hudson, for 15 years superintendent of the farm department at M.A.C., and Stanley Filkins, connected with the Novi Engine Co. for past 7 years, have bought the East Lansing Hardware store.  Mr. Hudson has resigned his position at the college and will leave in November.

By 1930 Stanley had moved the family to Oakland County, Michigan and was employed as an auditor for the Oakland County Road Commission, a position he held for a number of years.  Stanley died 27 July 1974, Pontiac, Oakland County.  Axie died 7 February 1982, Pontiac.
