Leverett Arden VanHalst - Class Of 1934 VIEW PROFILE

Leverett Arden VanHalst, son of Arthur C. (1893-1950) and Isabella (Rhodes) (1890-1969) VanHalst, was born 11 February 1917, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1935 from Okemos High School. 

Leverett was drafted into the US Army May 1941.

VANHOLST - Leverett A. VanHolst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur C. VanHolst of Okemos, who is a member of the 48th armored infantry battalion of the Seventh armored division, has been promoted from staff sergeant to second lieutenant, in Holland, according to a release from the Seventh division.  A former supply and maintenance sergeant of his unit, he will not become a motor officer.  Lieutenant VanHolst graduated from Okemos high school in 1935.

After returning from World War II Leverett married, 30 August 1947, Brighton, Livingston County, Michigan, divorcee Adda Pauline "Pauline" (VanBuren) Shaull.  The couple celebrated 40 years and had two children before Leverett died 26 June 1988, Lansing.  Pauline, born 12 July 1913, died at the great age of 102, 16 November 2015.  Their interments are unknown.

VANHALST, LEVERETT A., 71, World War II veteran and operator of a Mobile service station, died Sunday.  Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Adda Pauline "Pauline" VanHalst:  Age 102, of Lansing, MI, passed away November 16, 2015. She was born July 12, 1913, in Lansing, MI, to Harmon and Lula Bell Van Buren.

She is survived by her daughter Jane Griese, son Terry VanHalst, and many other family members and friends.

A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham County Medical Care Facility in Okemos, MI.
