Frederick L. "Fred" Richey - Class Of 1946

Frederick L. "Fred" Richey, son of Glenn Luin (1895-1979) and Ruth (Schleicher) (1900-1943) Richey, was born 28 January 1928, Michigan.  He graduated in 1946 from Okemos High School and entered the US Army Air Force, September 1946.

RICHEY - Fred L. Richey, son of Mrs. Glenn Richey, Mason, was recently promoted to the grade of sergeant in Nagoya, Japan, where he is serving with the Fifth communications squadron of the Fifth air force.  The Fifth air force is the air occupation force of Japan and southern Korea and is under the command of Maj. Gen. K. B,. Wolfe.  Sergeant Richey graduated from Okemos high school on May 1946 and entered the army in September 1946.  He arrived in Japan last February 1947.

On July 11 July 1953, Ingham County, Michigan, Fred married Arlene Ruth Knop.  They raised 4 children during their 61 years of marriage..  Fred, a 1953 graduate of Michigan State University, was manager of and retired from The Horticultural Research Center at MSU.  He died 23 November 2014 and was interred East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos.

FREDERICK L. RICHEY

MASON

Age 86, died November 23, 2014; born January 28, 1928 to Glenn and Ruth (Schleicher) Richey.  Fred was a graduate of MSU; retired after 37 1/2 years as manager of The Horticultural Research Center.  He was a member and very active i Mason First Church of the Nazarene teaching Sunday School and Bible Classes for 32 years; also served on the Church Board for 25 years.  He enjoyed woodworking and liked to make furniture.  He had served in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene; daughter, Ruth (Jon) Iversen; sons, Mark (Michelle) Richey, Stephen (Mary) Richey, Philip (Juanita) Richey; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at the Mason First Church of the Nazarene, 415 E. Maple, Mason, MI with Rev. Gerhard Weigelt officiating.  Interment will follow at East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos, MI with Military Honors.
