George Chester Taylor - Class Of 1934

George Chester Ries Taylor, son of George Chester Ries (1891-1969) and Maude L. (Turk) (1893-1963) Ries, was born 1 January 1917, Cement City, Jackson County, Michigan.  George and older sister, Rosamond, went to live with a Mr. and Mrs. Frank Congdon Taylor during the 1920's.  George and Rosamond were identified in the 1930 Ingham County, Michigan US Federal Census as "foster" children, "Rosamond M. Taylor" and "George B. Taylor", living in household of Frank and Hazel L. (White) (1885-1970) Taylor.

The Taylor's didn't have any biological children, according to census. Mr. Taylor (1876-1931) was President of Lansing Mortgage Company.  Although the Ries children used the surname Taylor no official adoption records can be located.  Later in life both George and Rosamond went back to their biological surname Ries.

George and his sister may have been in the same 1934 Okemos High School graduating class.  He was not listed in the 1935 Lansing State Journal newspaper article of Okemos graduates.

On 21 April 1939, Williamston, Ingham County, Michigan, George married Helen Youngs.  During World War II George served in the US Army.  After the war he was employed by General Motors, from where he retired in 1977.  He and Helen were married 61 years.

George died 8 September 2000, Lansing.  Helen, born 12 March 1920, died 24 May 2008, Lansing.  George and Helen were interred Deepdale Memorial Park, Eaton County, Michigan.
