CRASH FATAL TO GIRL, 18

Carol Jean Ball, Okemos, Succumbs Following Bellevue Collision

An 18-year-old Okemos girl was killed and four others injured in traffic accidents Friday evening.

Carol Jean Ball, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ball of 3818 Van Atta rd., Okemos was fatally injured in a collision on an icy curve on highway M-78 one block from the main intersection of Bellevue about 9 p.m.

She died of head injuries a few minutes after being admitted to Hayes-Green-Beach hospital, Charlotte.

CARS HIT ON ICE

Miss Ball was a passenger in a car being driven by Harvey A. Ray, 22, of Okemos.  The west bound car went out of control and skidded into the path of another car being driven by Donald J. Lawrence, 21, of R. 1, Otsego.

Lawrence told Eaton county deputies that Ray apparently lost control on the gradual curve because of ice.  Lawrence said the left rear of the Ray car hit the front of his automobile.

Ray, who suffered internal injuries, was reported in "fairly good" condition Saturday.  Lawrence was treated for minor cuts and bruises and released.
