LOCAL BOY DROWNS SWIMMING

A 16-year-old Lansing boy drowned in Lake Michigan, Sunday afternoon, when he and a companion were caught in a strong current while swimming.

Donald R. Beaubier, 16, of 2328 LaBelle, drowned about 3 p.m. between Holland and Grand Haven, according to Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies.  They said the boy was swimming with Reginald Lickert, 22, of Holt, when they were caught by the current about 150 yard out in the lake.  Lickert attempted to save Beaubier but finally had to let go, deputies said.

The body was recovered by other swimmers 90 minutes later about one mile south of the scene of the drowning.

Beaubier attended Okemos schools.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Beaubier Sr., two brothers, Dan and Damon, and two sisters, Deanna and Dorina, all of home; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Beaubier, Lansing.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.

BEAUBIER, DONNIE, JR. - In loving memory of our son and brother, who passed away a year ago today.

We often sit and think of him

when we are all alone.

For memory is the only friend

that grief can call its own;

Like ivy on the withered oak;

when all others things decay. Our love for him will still

keep green and never fade away.

WITH LOVE,

MOTHER, GERALDINE BEAUBIER AND DEANNA, DORINA, DAMON, DAN, JOYCE AND DAVID
