Ruth I. Sturges - Class Of 1927

Ruth I. Sturges, daughter of Wallace A. (1855-1941) and Daisy L. (Coston) (1885-1977) Sturges, was born 23 September 1905, Okemos, Ingham County, Michigan. Wallace and Daisy married 3 December 1902, Lansing, Ingham County and immediately moved to Okemos. 

Ruth was the oldest of 2 children.  She attended the Okemos school until the 8th grade.  Ruth was enrolled with the OHS Class of 1927.

Ruth lead a quiet life.  She never married but continued to live in Okemos until she was in her 70's.  According to several Lansing State Journal news articles, Ruth was active continually from the 1920's with the Okemos Grange (listed as No. 235 in 1923) and with the Okemos Pioneer Ladies.  She and her mother were mentioned numerous times in the State Journal as they hosted Pioneer Ladies programs in their home.  The State Journal also revealed, 18 January 1952, "Miss Ruth Sturges underwent surgery this week at the McLaughlin hospital."

Ruth died 2 May 1993, Ingham County.  She was a 3rd generation Sturges interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.

Age 87, died May 2, 1993.  Born September 23, 1905 to Daisy and Wallace Sturges. Miss Sturges was born in Okemos and lived there until May 1982, when she moved to Grange Acres.  She was a member of Capitol Grange for 59 years; member of Pioneer Ladies of Okemos and member of the Meridian Historical Club.  She attended Okemos Schools to the 8th grade, and attended Okemos Community Church.  Surviving is her brother, Wendell A. Sturges of Haslett.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2:30 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, East Lansing,
