George Coggins Dunn (1951 World Hist, Coach)

George Coggins Dunn, son of John Frances (1888-1964) and Josephine (Coggins) (1897-1992) Dunn, was born 5 July 1924, Michigan.  He attended and graduated, in 1950, with a BS degree from Western Michigan College (now Western Michigan University), Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  While at WMC George played both football and basketball and was voted the most valuable player award by his football teammates.

George married Rosemary Theresa Cetlinski 11 August 1948, Hamtramck, Wayne County, Michigan.

GEORGE DUNN NEW COACH AT OKEMOS

Okemos, July 6 - George Dunn, Western Michigan college football and basketball player, will be the new coach at Okemos high school next fall, it was announced today by Supt. Edward L. Murdock.  Dunn comes from Birmingham and graduated from Western Michigan college's physical training course last spring, where he was rated in the top four of the class.

Dunn will be head coach of all spots, succeeding George Richards, who will become principal of the high school.

George Dunn, who has been both football and basketball coach at Okemos, has transferred to Grand Blanc, where he will be an assistant coach.

The 1960 Royal Oak, Michigan City Directory listed George as a teacher, Clawson Jr. High School.  George died, age 52, 19 September 1976.
