Vida Backus (Hale) - Class Of 1952

Vida Backus (Hale)

Vida Marie Backus, daughter of Robert Lee (1909-1966) and Elaine Constance (Hoar) (1914-1996) Backus, was born 27 August 1933, Harbor Springs, Emmit County, Michigan.  She was one of six Backus daughters, all whose names began with the letter V; Vida, Vivian, Vickie, Valorie, Velda, Viola.

Vida attended Okemos High School with the class of 1952.  She married Donald H. Brown in April 1953,  They divorced in November 1955.  Vida then married Albert Merle "Ike" Brown.  The couple had 5 children.  Albert, born 14 April 1926, was a World War II veteran.  He died 19 February 1980.  Vida then married Gaylord A. Hale in 1984.  Mr. Hale (1918-2007) was a highly respected "National Acclaimed Horse Trainer."  

Vida was a bus driver for Okemos Schools for 24 years, starting in the 1970's.  She passed away from cancer 12 February 1996, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan and was interred with Ike, her second husband, in Lakeview Cemetery, Harbor Springs, Emmit County, Michigan.
