Bernhart Cecil Bernie Marcussen

Bernhart Cecil "Bernie" Marcussen, son of Bernhart C. "Ben" (about 1906-1957) and Alice Camille (Kronmann) (1897-1994) Marcussen, was born 26 January 1944 in East Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  Bernie's parents were both born in Denmark. Ben was employed in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio in the 1920's and 30's.  Alice worked as a maid for a wealthy family in New York State in 1915 but by 1928 was enrolled in Fort Wayne Bible College where she graduated in 1932.  Ben and Alice married in Toledo, Ohio 17 August 1940.  Ben and Alice moved to the Lansing, Michigan area before Bernie was born in 1944.  The Marcussen's owned and operated a successful laundry business in the East Lansing area.  Ben died 29 June 1957 and was interred in Toledo Memorial Park, Lucas County, Ohio.

Bernie graduated from Okemos High School in 1962.  He first married Phyllis Rutter.  His second marriage was to Susan Wright.  Bernie succumbed to esophageal cancer 3 June 1994 in St. Joseph County, South Bend, Indiana. Alice, his mother, died only months before Bernie, 5 April 1994 Lee County, Florida.  Bernie was interred Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Berrien County, Michigan.

MARCUSSEN, BERNHART "BERNIE"

BUCHANAN, MI

Formerly of Lansing

Age 50, died June 3, 1994 of cancer in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.  Born January 26, 1994 (should be 1944) in Charlotte, MI (Bernie's Social Security Application lists his birth as East Lansing, Michigan).  Mr. Marcussen was the Manager of Consumer Affairs at Holiday Rambler Corp., Wakarusa, IN.  He married Susan Wright in October 1981, and she survives him.  Also surviving is his daughter, Gretta Mae Marcussen of St. Johns.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Marcussen, April 5, 1994 in Lansing (she died in Leon County, Florida).  Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Swem Funeral Home, Buchanan, MI with interment in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan.
