Lucile Pryer (1946 History And Librarian)

Lucile K. Strong, daughter of George and Henrietta (Whitney) Strong, was born 9 July 1892, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.  She married Roy Webster Pryer 22 December 1914, Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, Michigan.  Roy, son of William H. and Margaret Elizabeth (Wooden) Pryer, was born 7 January 1889, Minden, Kearney County, Nebraska. Roy attended and graduated from the University of Michigan with a doctorate degree in Public Health.

DR. ROY W. PRYER

Funeral services for Dr. Roy W. Pryer, assistant director of the Michigan State Laboratory at Lansing, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Portland, Mich.

Dr. Pryer, who died Monday at his home in Portland, had been active in public health work in Michigan for many years.  For 12 years he was laboratory director of the Detroit Board of Health and he served in the World War as a captain in the Sanitary Corps.  He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and was one of the first men to receive the degree of Doctor of Public Health from that institution.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Margretta, and a son, William.

SCHOOL HEAD AT PALO TO TAKE POST AT BATH

Portland, May 18 - Mrs. Lucile Pryer of Portland, for the past two years principal of Palo high school, will teach English next year at the James Couzens high school at Bath.

The family will move to East Lansing where Mrs. Pryer's daughter, Margretta, is a junior at Michigan State college and where her son, William, will enroll as a freshman.

Lucile was listed in the Lansing, Michigan city directory of 1945 as a widow and teacher Okemos High School.  Her address was 240 Kedzie Drive, East Lansing.

The high school teachers are as follows:  Mabel Anderson, Home economics; Mrs. Edith Bearup, English and history; Mrs. Joy Clemow, commercial; Mrs. Ruth Kelly, mathematics; Merwin Monroe, agriculture and shop; Mrs. Lucile Pryer, history and librarian; George Richards, athletics and biology; Christina Schram, speech and science, and Edward L. Murdock, superintendent.

Lucile remarried 27 November 1947 in East Lansing, Ingham County Leroy Windsor Blaker.  Leroy, a widower, was the son of Franklin and Emma (Springer) Blaker.  He was born 7 January 1889 in Minden, Kearney County, Nebraska.  He had 1st married Ola Winzeler 24 January 1912 in Fulton County, Ohio.  Ola, born 1888 in Ohio, died 1943 in Ohio.  World War I Draft Registration, 5 June 1917, recorded Leroy self employed as a farmer in Hillsdale, Michigan.  He was described as medium height, slender with blue eyes and brown hair.  Leroy and Ola had 3 children.

EAST LANSING WOMAN WED ON THANKSGIVING

McCune Chapel, Peoples church, East Lansing, was the scene of the wedding Thanksgiving morning of Mrs. Lucile S. Pryer, 240 Kedzie drive, East Lansing, and Leroy W. Blaker of Alvordton, O.  The double ring ceremony was performed by Dr. N. A. McCune in the presence of 50 guests.

Mrs. Blaker wore a wine colored suit with gray accessories and a corsage of rubrum lilies.  Organ music was played by Mrs. l. B. Sholl.  Guests were seated by Gerald Blaker of Hudson and Walter J. Rummel of Sebewaing.

At the reception which followed, coffee was poured by Mrs. William H. Creaser of Huntington Woods.  The table was centered with a cornucopia filled with chrysanthemums and heather in wine and lavender shades, flanked by blending tapers.  Assisting were Mrs. Walter J. Rummel, Mrs. William S. Pryer and Miss Moira Creaser.

The newlyweds left on a wedding trip through the Cumberland mountains.  Mrs. Blaker will complete the year as teacher of English and Latin in Okemos high school after which she will join Mr. Blaker in Ohio.

Numerous showers were given for the bride by the faculty and school board members and by the senior and sophomore girls of Okemos high school.

Lucile died 6 January 1973 in Fulton County, Ohio.  She was interred with her first husband, Roy Pryer, in Danby Cemetery, Ionia County, Michigan.

LUCILE BLAKER

PORTLAND - Mrs. Lucile Blaker, 80, a former Portland resident, died Saturday in Alvordton, Ohio.  She formerly taught school in the Okemos area.

Survivors include her husband, Leroy; a son, William Pryor of Portland; and a daughter, Mrs. Margretta Rummel of Sebewaing.

Services will be held in the United Methodist Church at Fayette, Ohio, at 11 a.m. Tuesday.  Graveside rites will follow at 2 p.m. in Danby Cemetery near Portland.

Leroy passed away 19 August 1975, Williams County, Ohio.
