Richard Alvin Wever - Class Of 1933

Richard Alvin Wever, son of Norman (1891-1960) and Hazel E. (Hatch) (1892-1957) Wever, was born 9 June 1914 Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated from Okemos High School in 1933.  On 1 October 1938 in Okemos, Ingham County Richard married Thelma Ada Whiting, daughter of Alfred "Phil" and Nova (Smith) Whiting.  Thelma was a 1931 graduate of Okemos High School.

A pantry shower turned into an engagement party Saturday evening when Miss Thelma Whiting of Okemos and Lansing entertained at a party ostensibly for Miss Ethel Kelley and Rex Wilkins, who will be married September 24.  Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Whiting of Okemos, announced the engagement of Miss Whiting to Richard Wever of Detroit, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wever of Mason.  Scrolls held by miniature brides and grooms announced the engagement.

Thelma, born 1914, died 3 July 1967 in Michigan.  Richard died 14 June 2003 Dearborn, Wayne County, Michigan.  Richard and Thelma were interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.

Okemos - Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glendale Cemetery here for Mrs. Thelma E. Wever, 53, of Allen Park, following funeral services at 11 a.m. at Trinity Methodist Church, Allen Park.

Mrs. Wever died Monday at her summer home in Cheboygan.  She was a native of Lansing and a graduate of Okemos high school.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Hornkohl of Westland and Miss Linda Wever of Ann Arbor; a son, John, at home; her mother Mrs. Nova Dietz of Okemos; a brother, Kenneth Whiting of Birmingham, and three grandchildren.

Age 89, passed away June 14, 2003.  Beloved husband of Shirley Blanchard Berry Wever.  Predeceased by Thelma.  Dear father of Martha Hornkohl, Linda (Paul) Wulff and John (Kathy).  Stepfather of John (Christine) Berry, Jane (Larry) Darling, Judith (Ray) Buck, Suzanne (Ross) Singleton, Martha Berry and James (Karen) Berry.  Dear brother of Phyllis (Sidney) Beale.  Also survived by 19 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.  Memorial Service, Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 10 a.m. from Christ Episcopal Church in Dearborn, 120 N. Military.
