Lieutenant Tremper, a member of the 943rd field artillery battalion in France was awarded the bronze star for meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy in France between September 11, 1944 and October 4, 1944,.  His citation read: "Lieutenant Tremper, while serving with the 943rd field artillery battalion as reconnaissance officer and forward observer, distinguished himself by his courage and devotion to duty in action near Fort Driant, France.  His observation post was so close to the enemy that they could watch every movement he made.  Enemy artillery and mortar fire was registered in on his position three times a day, some of it hitting the tall trees nearby making the position doubly dangerous.  The incessant pounding of nearby friendly artillery made it impossible to hear enemy shells in the air, thus making it difficult to take cover before the hit the ground.  Defying the enemy barrages, Lieutenant Tremper remained at his observation post for over three consecutive weeks, observing enemy activities and adjusting his battalion's fire on many targets, causing severe damage and casualties ot eh Germans.  His dogged tenacity, courage and devotion to duty reflects distinct credit upon himself and the army of the United States."

Lieutenant Tremper attended the University of Michigan in 1926 and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1939.  He was a member of the auditing firm of Bauman and Finney of Chicago, Ill.  He was inducted into service in 1942, and received his training at Fort Sill, Okla., and Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.  He left for overseas duty from Fort Bragg, N. C., in June 1944.  Since receiving the medal Tramper has been promoted to lieutenant.

Lloyd, born 19 October 1916 Indiana, died 10 October 1981.  Ruth died 25 September 2003 Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado.
