Miss Marcia Boznango was a family friend and I had a terrible time not calling her "Marcia" at school.  She was most gracious to me as I constantly slipped up when addressing her.  I took at least 2 courses from her my last 2 years in high school.

Marcia was an extraordinary lady and a fine Christian woman to boot!  She was a very accomplished organist and played the organ for many years at Okemos Baptist Church.  Well read, highly educated, devoted to her faith and a caring daughter, Marcia also helped take care of her elderly mother, who lived in Okemos on Okemos Road, for many years.  I was part of one of the Home Economic classes that designed and helped remodel the tiny home Mrs. Boznango lived in.  Quite a project but lots of fun and educational.  That fun "course" helped me learn about the ins and outs of remodeling which I've now put my hand and mind to over a dozen times since then.

Marcia was maid of honor at my sister's 1959 wedding and she also played the organ at my wedding in 1968.  On several occasions back in the late 60's  I had the priviledge to tap her for "wise counsel" while I was changing jobs.  Her directness, life experiences and wisdom were exceptional.  I took her advice!!

Sometime after I moved from the Okemos area Marcia adopted 3 children and raised them as a single parent.  Unusual in that era but she loved her kids.  I remember asking my Mom one time why Marcia never married.  Mom made the remark that Marcia had opprotunitiy but felt the young man was wrong. She was quite a role model for young women....independent, smart, well educated, and a woman of deep faith.

If anyone reading this remembers Marcia you will no doubt recall how very small she was but she always, always wore stiletto heels!  She dressed beautifully, with a real eye for conservative fashion but with proper and expensive tastes.

Both of my sisters have mentioned Marcia many times over the years -- she left wonderful memories with us.
