Virginia Ruth Travis (1965)

Virginia Ruth (Andrews) Travis, daughter of  William Kile (174-1961) and Mattie M. (Snyder) (1879-1976) Andrews, was born 24 April 1913 in Moweaqua, Shelby County, Illinois.  Virginia graduated from DePauw University, Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana.  She wed Lawrence Warren "Larry" Travis in 1942.  Larry, son of Fred L. and Edna S. (Warren) Travis, was born 27 January 1915 in Mt. Vernon, Linn County, Iowa.  During World War II he served in the US Army.

In 1961 the Travis family, now including three children, moved to the Okemos area and Virginia began teaching English at Okemos High School.  Daughter Martha received the DAR award from Okemos High School in 1962. Virginia died 17 August 1981 in Ingham County, Michigan.  Larry died12 January 2005.  Both were interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.

Age 68, died August 17, 1981.  Born April 24, 1913 in Moweaqua, Ill.  Mrs. Travis was a member of the Okemos Community Church and a former member of the Okemos High School English Depart.  She was a graduate of DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana.  Surviving are her husband Lawrence W.; 2 sons, Dr. Lawrence W. and William A. both of New Orleans; 1 daughter, Martha Drugy of Grand Rapids; 1 brother, William K. Andrews of Cocoa Beach, Fla; 2 sisters, Mrs. T. C. (Lillian) Roberts of Cocoa Bach, and Mrs. G. A. (Isabel) Smith of Coffeyville, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, Robert Durgy, Mathew Durgy, Keith Travis and Kimberly Travis.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11:30 a.m. in the Okemos Community Church, 4734 N. Okemos Rd., Okemos with the Rev. Dr. John E. Cermak officiating.  Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery.
