Jacqueline Jackie Babcock (1965 Home Ec)

Jaqueline “Jackie” Babcock of Holiday, Ark., daughter of Dewey and Maude Irene (Pitts) Young, was born July 16, 1923 in Raytown, MO. She departed this life Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in Fayetteville, Ark., at age 92.

“Jackie” as she was known to everyone, grew up in Denver, Colorado, graduated from Campion Academy and married Merton Babcock, whom she had met while attending high school. 

Her husband’s career as a professor of English brought them to Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., where she raised her children. She was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics and a Master’s Degree at MSU. She taught at Okemos High School near MSU. Upon her husband Mert’s retirement, they moved to Holiday Island, Arkansas, where she became an established real estate broker until her own retirement in 1996. Jackie was a tenacious Christian, leaving behind a legacy of good works and dear friends.

On May 17, 1942 in Denver, Colorado, Jackie was united in marriage to her devoted husband, Clarence Merton Babcock, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Memorial services were held at 12 p.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the First Southern Baptist Church on Dove Circle, Holiday Island, Arkansas.

Clarence Merton Babcock and Jacqueline Audrey Young Babcock were interred Oak Hill Cemetery, Eureka Spring, Carroll County, Arkansas. Merton, born 9 March 1908 Duluth, St. Louis County, Minnesota, was a WWII Army veteran. He died 27 November 1988 Eureka Springs, Carroll County, Arkansas.
