Jim Coe - Class Of 1968 VIEW PROFILE

Jim Coe

James Allen Coe II class of 1968, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024, in his hometown of Mason, Michigan. Born on November 22, 1950, in the very same community, Jim lived a life dedicated to his unwavering sense of dedication and duty. He graduated from Okemos High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps entering February 27, 1969 through February 22, 1971, when he was released from active duty and subsequently was honorable discharged on February 26, 1975, at the rank of Sgt. E-5.

Jim decided to continue his military service and joined the Michigan Army National Guard in May, 1978. He then served 20 years and again as honorably discharged May 1, 1998 at the rank of Command Sergeant Major, E-9. Jim joined the American Legion in October, 1975 and has continued service to-date. He has held the position of Commander, 1st and 2nd Vice, Service Officer, Sgt. at Arms, Executive Board, and Judge Avocat. Jim was invited to join La Societe and was wrecked at V-946 in May, 1976. He has been a member since then, except for an eight year sabbatical in the mid-80's while his duties in the Army as 1st Sergeant took most of his time. Jim has served the Voiture as Chef de Gare (1994 and 1998), Chef de Train (twice), Conducteur (5 times), Garde de la Porte (4 times), Cheminot Locale (twice), and Avocat (9 times). He has served on numerous other committees and projects.

Jim also served Grande du Michigan as Cheminot (3 times), Sous Cheminot (twice), Directeur Americanism (twice), and Directeur Nurses Training (6 years), and Grand Chef de Gare. He also served on the Nationale Level as Sous Directeur of Nurses Training for two years prior to his election as Sous Chef Chef de Chemin de Fer, one of his proudest accomplishments.

Jim was a respected Commander of the Holt American Legion Post 238 from 2000-2001 and again in 2008-2009, a member of the Honorable Order of Santa Barbara, and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3734 in Holt, Michigan.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Allen Coe and Mary (Antcliff) Coe, a sister Dawn Buck, and a brother Thomas Wood. Jim is survived by his wife, Lori Coe; sons, James Coe III, Jeffrey Coe and wife Tammy; a daughter, Jessica Coe; stepsons, Robert Griffin and Sean Griffin; two grandchildren, Isabella Coe and Jayden Coe; sisters, Jacklyn Partak (husband Tom), D'Nita Tice, and Diane Seaver (husband Robert), along with many cousins and cherished friends.

qA funeral service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Holt Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will take place the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM and continue Monday from 9:00 AM- 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 40 et 8 Building Maintenance Fund in memory of Jim.
