Steve Spalding - Class Of 1973 VIEW PROFILE

Steven John Spalding class of 1973

June 27, 1955 - February 11, 2024

On February 11, 2024, Steven John Spalding passed away suddenly at his home in Williamston, MI. He was born on June 27, 1955, in Lansing, MI to John and MaryEllen Spalding, as the oldest of four children.

Steve graduated from Okemos High School before attending Northern Michigan University. He spent his childhood skiing and going on frequent trips up north, trends that continued his entire life. Steve married Pam VanCuyl and welcomed his beloved sons, Drake and Cole into the world. His life’s work was continuing his father’s legacy, operating Ace Rug Cleaners and S&S Contracting.

Steve primarily spent weekends traveling to either Boyne City or Torch Lake. He and Carolyn maintained cherished friendships too numerous to count. Always a kid at heart, life was an adventure to Steve with boating on Torch Lake or Charlevoix, skiing at Boyne Mountain or somewhere out west, and hunting/fishing at the Sportsmasters cabin.

He was a dedicated and loving father to his surviving sons, Drake and Cole (Audrey) Spalding; also survived by devoted partner to his beloved, Carolyn Spence, her children Katie McConnell, Brian (Katie) McConnell and granddaughter Ella; brother to Susan (William) Keiser and Sally (Philip) Clark. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and MaryEllen Spalding, and brother, Scott Spalding.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m. at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing. The family will host visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday 1-hour prior to the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Diabetes Association.

Thank you to Terry Sellers class of 1973, and Joe Dzenowagis class of 1973 for notification.
