KATHY (SCHOLLE) BRYAN

To know Kathy was to love her.  She spent her entire 58 short years on this Earth providing strength and guidance to us all, even as her health declined over the last several years as she battled Multiple Myeloma.  She fought with dignity and grace until October 26, 2017, at which time her soul was released from her body and she received her angel wings to watch over her family and friends.

Kathy was born on April 9, 1959 to bob and Diane Scholle.  She attended Okemos Public Schools and Michigan state University.  On September 20, 1980, Kathy married her soul mate and the love of her life, Dave Bryan.  Kathy and Dave then settled in Grand Ledge, where they raised their daughter Stephanie, and son Kevin.  After caring for their children at home, Kathy began working at UAW Local 602 in 1998.  It is through her employment there as a bookkeeper that Kathy met most of her lifelong friends.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Dave Bryan; daughter, Stephanie (Mike) Service; son Kevin Bryan; cherished grandson, Lawson; father, bob Scholle; sister, Kelly (Kevin) Ramirez; and many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is now graced to be spending time with those who pre-deceased her, including her mother, Diane Scholle, and her dear friend, Connie Swander.

In addition to spending time with family and being a Grammy to her grandson, Kathy enjoyed traveling, crafting, and doing crosswords.  Kathy wanted everyone to know she treasured her life and the opportunities she was given.  She believed we will see her again one day, but until that time, her words to us are, "Live your lives fully, love each other, be kind, and welcome new people into your lives."

Kathy wanted us to celebrate the life she lived, so we will be holding her Celebration of Life on Friday, November 3, 2017.

It has been almost a year since Kathy went to be with Jesus in Heaven (10-26-17). You may remember, from my Facebook posts back then (scroll back a few posts to October), that in lieu of flowers, Kathy had asked for a bench to be placed at a park in her memory. Due to the very compassionate and wonderful generosity of many people, the Kathy Bryan Memorial Park Bench Fund grew to over $7,300 in a few months time. On behalf of Kathy, and my entire family, I would like to thank all of our friends, neighbors, coworkers, family, and the general community for donating to that fund.
This March, we ordered 10 memorial benches (with 8.5 x 11.0 inch laser etched, oval, granite plaques), and have spent much of the spring and summer walking local parks, selecting possible spots, and speaking with parks directors and ground crews to have the benches installed for your enjoyment. Each bench is placed in a unique spot with very peaceful views. (There are three, very slight, but different, versions of the plaques. Only one sentence is different. The sentences came from a letter Kathy wrote, which is posted on my Facebook page, and a binder she put together before she passed.)
We now have 8 of the 10 benches installed in the following local parks...
1. Hunters Orchard (paved woods river path)
2. Grand Woods (grass hilltop)
3. Sharp Park (paved woods path)
4. Sharp Park (pond)
5. Wuldamar Nature Center (dirt woods trail)
6. Fox Memorial Park (pond)
7. Fitzgerald Park (dirt woods Sandstone Creek trail)
8. Lincoln Brick Park (hilltop overlooking white water from the dam)
9. Delta Canoe & Kayak Launch (TBD because of a major redesign project going on there)
10. ??? (TBD maybe along the Ausable River near where we spread Kathy's ashes)
Attached are pictures of each bench and the corresponding views. We hope you get a chance to take a moment out of your busy day to sit, enjoy, reflect, and thank God for all of your blessings. May God bless you and your families!
Sincerely,
Dave (Kathy's husband of 37 years)
P.S. The first 3 comments are pictures of the 3 slightly different plaques.
