James Phillip Grandstaff, 63, of Lansing, Michigan was born on February 15, 1961 and passed away on December 24, 2024 after a short illness.
Phil graduated from Okemos High School in 1979 and went on to study at Michigan State University and obtained his Bachelor's of Arts degree in piano techonology. After college, Phil found an interest in music composing and was a prolific fugue composer. Phil worked at Schuler's Bookstore in Okemos for many years and was an avid reader.
Phil is survived by his brothers Stephen and Matthew (Kristine), nephew Levi and niece Myles, as well as relatives in North Carolina and Kansas and many friends.

Phil was a wonderful, and wonderfully funny human being; a meansch as it were. Very caring and warm. I remember having many laughs in a shared class - I can't even recall it now, but in said class he presented a short story that he had co-written with Jay Bailey, another kind soul. Both are missed.
