
Susan Gies-Conley class of 1989 died June 21, 2025, as announced by her loving husband Arthur.
Susan Jean Gies Conley Link, 54, of Winston-Salem, nonprofit fundraiser and advocate, took a seat in the most glorious choir on June 21, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Susan was born on April 16, 1971, in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI and she carried a love of her home state, with her - especially Mackinac Island and the family cottage on Sutherland Lake in Harrison.
Susan graduated from Okemos High School and experienced exceptional joy as a singer with longtime friends and formative choir teacher, Mr. Frank K. Dewald. Susan sang in choirs throughout her life including at All Saints Episcopal Church in East Lansing under the mentorship of the Rev. Elizabeth Morris Downie and both the choir and glee club of Wellesley College, where she completed a BA in political science. Susan later attained a Master of Education in higher education administration from UNC-Greensboro. Susan most recently sang in her church choir at St Anne's Episcopal Church and in the Winston Salem Symphony Chorus.
Due to limited capacity, the Celebration of Life will be streamed, Saturday, July 12 at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, Susan wished for donations to St. Anne's Donations. Please select the Susan G. Link Memorial Fund.
Susan is survived by her husband of one year, Arthur Link III, her mother Betty Seckinger, her beloved children Mal Rose (formerly Madeline) and Ethan Thomas Conley, her father and mother in law Dr. Stanley and Mary Margaret Link and her brother Allen Gies (sister in love Amber Lee). Susan was previously married to Kevin Conley, now of Orlando, Florida. Her best friends, Jen Ivey, Emily Page, Raina Haque, Susan Brittain, Noni Waite-Kucera and Anne Garvey.
Susan is also survived by a large extended family. Aunts Donna Gies Kammerer of Harrison, MI, Nancy Todorovich of Sterling Heights, MI (Mike), and Phyllis Gies of Las Vegas; Cousins Melissa Kammerer of Durham (partner Brian), Nicholas Kammerer of Memphis, MI (Courtney, daughter Isabelle), Paul A. Gies of Las Vegas, NV (Krista, daughter Ireland), Marty Gies of Las Vegas, NV (Danielle, children Ian, Forrest), Nick Todorovich of Sterling Heights, MI, Lisa Hahn of Kalamazoo, MI (Matt, children Cailey and Alex), Sandi Todorovich of Chicago, IL (partner Andy), Judy Gibes of Warren MI, Diana Sieloff of Traverse City, MI (Brian), Frank Gibes of Kalamazoo, MI (Jan), Aaron Gibes, Kirstie Sieloff, Lauren Sieloff, Noelle Sieloff, Garrett Sieloff. Additional family include Cathy Gies Hobecke of Detroit, MI, Grandniece Kirstin Gies of CO along with siblings in love, Julie Jones of Kalamazoo, MI (Todd, children Kennedy and CJ), Jenny Seckinger of Grand Rapids, MI (Melissa, son Teddy) Jeannette Seckinger of Portland OR, Jacob Seckinger of Paris, MI (Lynda, children Renae and Alexis) Juanita Seckinger, and Joe Seckinger of Florida (Ann Marie, children Cameron and Kerstin).
She was preceded in death by her father Roy Gies, Stepfather, Clarke Seckinger, Grandparents Walter and Kathleen Gies of St Clair Shores and Harrison, MI. Grandparents Louis and Rose Deren of St Clair Shores, MI. Uncles Louie Deren, Paul Gies, Owen Gies, Norb Kammerer, Cousins Josh Gibes and Daniel and Andy Zamierowski.
The family thanks our many Bayada CNA professionals, the team at Trellis Supportive Care, and the staff of the Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center - especially Dr. Roy Strowd’s oncology group.
And a special thank you to the congregation of St Anne's Episcopal Church under the guidance of Pastor Ginny Wilder, Deacon Mary Kroohs, Martha Murphy, Terry Hicks and the many Church members who contributed meals while Susan was at home. We are profoundly grateful.
