OKEMOS DAD SUES U. OF M. HOSPITAL
ASKS A $375,000 DAMAGES; CHARGES SON WAS INJURED
ANN ARBOR, Sept. 11 - A lawsuit claiming damages of $375,000 for injuries allegedly received by a child patient at the University of Michigan hospital has been filed in Washtenaw county circuit court here.
Clarence Christ, father of 7-year-old Kirk Christie of Okemos, filed the suit naming the board of regents of the university as defendants.
The suit claimed the child was allowed to fall on his head from an unattended crib in 1953 and brain hemorrhaging resulted that forced extensive surgery.
A portion of the child's skull was removed, a plate was later inserted in his head and the boy has undergone 11 operations at the Ann Arbor hospital and has been confined there a total of nine months, the suit claimed.
The child, now a first grade student, had to wear a football helmet to protect his head from March of 1954 until September of 1957, the suit said.
Kirk graduated in 1970 from Okemos High School. He married Linda Lou Mills and the couple had one daughter, Roberta Lynn "Bobbie" Christie who graduated from OHS in 1988. Kirk and Linda were later divorced. Kirk died 4 February 1975, Lansing. He was interred Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.
