Betty June Bishop, daughter of Clare Edward (1886-1950) and Reva Rachel (Weippert) (1892-1985) Bishop, was born 25 June 1921, Tuscola County, Michigan. After graduating from high school Betty attended and graduated from Michigan State College. She married William Carlton McGowan and they had 2 children. Betty was a counselor at Okemos High School for many years.
Betty died 21 October 2002, Lee County, Florida. William, born 14 March 1916, Michigan, died 4 November 2005, Florida. Betty and William were interred East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos, Ingham County, Michigan.

Betty was raised in the small, rural town of Millington. While in high school, she was on the Debate Team and was valedictorian of her senior class. At Michigan State College, she earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics and taught junior high home economics as well as English and science in the Okemos, Michigan School District, where her two daughters also attended school. Betty was an accomplished seamstress and a judge at the Ingham County Fair each summer. After completing her master’s and specialist’s degrees in guidance and counseling at Michigan State University, she held the position of Director of Guidance with the Okemos Middle Schools.
Following her retirement from a long career in education, Betty and her husband, Bill, moved to their cottage outside of Grayling, Michigan, on the North Branch of the Au Sable River. They later resided in North Carolina and Florida. Betty enjoyed writing poetry, playing bridge, and the challenge of crossword puzzles.
