Frank Stanley Blackledge (1918 Superintendent Of Schools) VIEW PROFILE

Frank Stanley Blackledge, son of Robert (1849-1937) and Eugenia (Thomas) (1854-1938) Blackledge, was born 20 November 1891 in Porter, Delaware County, Ohio.  He married Hazel Fay Gates 1 November 1916 Clare County, Michigan.  The marriage registry listed both Frank and Hazel as school teachers.  World War I Draft Registration, dated 7 June 1917, recorded Frank employed as a school teacher in Farwell, Clare County.  He was described as medium height, medium build with black hair and brown eyes.

Frank and Hazel's first child, a daughter named Francis, was stillborn 28 June 1917 in Women's Hospital, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.  According to Hazel's 14 Sept 1991 obituary the couple moved to Okemos in 1918 "when Frank became Superintendent of Schools."  The Okemos school was not consolidated until 1923.  Frank was probably Superintendent of School District No. 6 which included the town of Okemos.  The 1920 US Federal Census enumerated Frank, Hazel and children living in Meridian Township.  Frank's occupation was listed as school teacher.  1930 US Census enumerated Frank employed by an educational supply company as a commercial traveler.

FRANK S. BLACKLEDGE

Frank Stanley Blackledge, 79, of 4712 Moore, Okemos, died Sunday in his home.

A resident of Okemos for 53 years, he was a former employee of Michigan Products, retiring in 1958.  He was a member of the Okemos Community church and a life member of the Okemos Lodge 252 F & AM.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel; three sons, Robert of Laingsburg, Fay of Maple Rapids and Lyle of Okemos; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Andrick of East Lansing; eight grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth of Harrison and two sisters, Mrs. Phoebe Pifer of Marion, and Mrs. Eleanor Mark of Houghton Lawke.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, East Lansing, with burial in Glendale Cemetery.
