Eldon Snover Bell - Class Of 1942 VIEW PROFILE

Eldon Snover Bell

Eldon Snover Bell, son of Okemos School Superintendent Leroy Bell (1886-1971) and wife, Mabel Agness (Snover) Bell (1888-1968), was born 13 September 1924 in Big Rapids, Mecosta County, Michigan.  Eldon graduated in 1942 from Okemos High School.  His father was School Superintendent from 1938-1947.

Okemos, Feb. 19 - Eldon Bell entered naval air school in Miami university at Oxford, O., last Monday.  Young Bell is a graduate of Okemos high school, of which his father, LeRoy Bell is superintendent, and has been employed at the Michigan Millers Insurance company.  An older brother, Gaylon, is in the signal air warning service and now serving in the south Pacific area.

Of interest in Lansing is the announcement of the marriage of Miss Mary Joyce Abbott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Abbott of Mason, to Eldon S. Bell, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Bell of Okemos.  The wedding took place August 28 at the home of the bride's parents and Rev. Karl Krauss of German Lutheran church, Lansing, officiated.  Mr. and Mrs. Gus Pekrul attended the couple.

Mary, born 7 April 1924 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan died 5 October 1978 in Lansing, Ingham County.

BELL, ELDON S.

FORMERLY OF LANSING

Born September 13, 1924 in Big Rapids; died June 18, 1995 at the age of 70, Mr. Bell graduated from Okemos High School and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S.N.R.  He attended Miami University of Ohio under the Navy V 5 program and completed many extension courses and seminars covering business and sales management.  Mr. Bell established Bell Furniture and Carpet Sales in 1953 with his late wife and partner, Mary Bell.  This business closed out in 1981.  He established the Cabaret Night Club in 1975, selling it in 1984.  After selling his business interests, he operated independently as an Independent Management Consultant until full retirement in 1991.  Mr. Bell moved to Punta Gorda, Fl, in 1993, where he and his wife, Kathy, designed and built their retirement home.  He died at his home peacefully with Kathy by his side.  During his business career, he served on the Board of Directors of Clinton National Bank and Trust Company and the Board of the Capital Division of the Michigan Beverage Association.  Mr. Bell was a member of the Moose Lodge #2606, Punta Gorda, Fl.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary J. (1978).  Surviving are his wife, Kathleen "Kathy"; 1 daughter, Robbin Bell Ramsey (George); 1 son, Phillip (Beverly); 6 grandchildren, Merre Ely Ashley, Wendy Ely Riley, Mark Burnett Ely, Steven Eric and Kevin Bell; 6 great grandchildren, Elisabeth and Troy Ashley, Amelia Renee, Dalton James, Ryan and Amanda Ely; and 5 nieces.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 28, 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, with the Rev. Richard D. McKenzie, Pastor, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Ledge, officiating.  Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. 

Eldon and Mary were interred Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.
