Mary Joyce Abbott (Bell) - Class Of 1942

Mary Joyce Abbott, daughter of John (born in Syria, Turkey) and Amelia (Sculley) (1901-1979) Abbott, was born 7 April 1924 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.  She graduated from Okemos High School in 1942.  On 28 August 1943 in Mason, Ingham County, Michigan, Mary wed fellow 1942 Okemos graduate Eldon Snover Bell.  Mary and Eldon built several businesses together.  They had 2 children.  Mary died 5 October 1978.  She was interred Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.

Age 54, died Thurs. Oct 5, 1978.  Born April 7, 1924 in Grand Rapids.  She had been a resident of Lansing since 1936.  Mrs. Bell was president of the Bell Furniture Inc. and was the co-owner of the Cabaret.  She was well known both locally and nationally in the retail furniture industry.  She is survived by her husband Eldon; 1 daughter Mrs. John (Robbin) Ely of DeWitt; a son, Phillip L. of Lansing; 3 grandchildren Merre, Wendy and Mark all of DeWitt; parents Mr. & Mrs. John Abbott of Lansing; a brother, Philip Abbott of Okemos; a sister, Mrs. Gus (Susanne) Pekrul of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, East Lansing with the Rev. LeRoy C. Beck of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Grand Ledge officiating.  Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
