Thomas "Tom" Griffith - Class Of 1941

Thomas "Tom" Griffith, son of James Knox (1883-1947) and Winifred Belle (Gault) (1885-1944) Griffith, was born 6 April 1923 Okemos, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1941 from Okemos High School.  Tom enlisted 13 October 1942 in the US Army.

Thomas Griffith, son of Mr. and Mrs. James K. Griffith of Okemos, has been assigned to an anti-aircraft replacement training center.  Griffith was formerly employed by the Reo Motor Car company.

Tom married Lorna Jeane McKane 23 August 1946 Okemos.

Two hundred and fifty guests in Okemos Community church Friday evening witnessed a candlelight ceremony which united in marriage Miss Lorna McKane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McKane, jr., of Okemos, and Thomas Griffith, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Griffith, 1424 Massachusetts avenue.

Pink and white gladioli and palms decorated the altar.  Appropriate organ music was played by Miss Jean Fogle, and the bride's uncle, Rev. Russell Metcalf, sand "My Happy Day" and "Because".  Rev. Harold Jayne performed the ceremony.

The bride's white satin gown was made with overskirt of white lace.  She carried white roses centered with a white orchid.  Her sister, Miss Kathleen McKane, was maid of honor, in aqua, and bridesmaids were Miss Maurine Page, Miss Bettie Markwart and Miss Elsie May Piper, dressed in pink.  They carried white gladioli.

Richard McKane was groomsman and ushers were Richard Foerch, Richard Fuller and Daniel Hovansian.

Assisting at the reception in the church parlors were Mrs. Harold Jayne, Mrs. Loren Purchis, Mrs. August Vietzke, Mrs. R. S. Hudson, Mrs. A. B. Keesler, Miss Mary Lou Olin, Miss Ruth McKane and Miss Delores Box.

The bride and groom will make their home in big Rapids were Mr. Griffith, a war veteran, expects to enter pharmacy school at Ferris institute.

Lorna, born 1 December 1927 Wayne County, Michigan, died 1 August 1993 Ingham County.  Tom died 14 February 1999 Ingham County.  Tom and Lorna were interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.

GRIFFITH, THOMAS

HOLT

On February 14, 1999, Tom, age 75, was reunited with his beloved wife, Lorna.  He was a dedicated and devoted husband, father and grandfather.  Mr. Griffith was born on April 16, 1923 in Okemos, the son of James and Winifred (Gault) Griffith.  He graduated from Ferris State University in 1950 and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.  He owned and operated Griffith Drug in Lansing from 1952-1962.  He owned and operated Griffith Drug Store in Holt from 1962-1977.  He was a member of Holt United Methodist Church; Michigan Pharmaceutical Association; Lions Club; and was a Holt School Board member and Treasurer for a number of years.  Surviving are his daughter, Tomene Fisher of Holt; 2 sons, Robert (Denise) Griffith of Grand Junction, CO and Richard (Michelle) Griffith of Holt; 5 grandchildren, Amanda, Julie, Jason, Tom, Sarah; 2 brothers, Joe (Marie) Griffith and Robert (Marie) Griffith; many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph D. Huston at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 1999, at Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 N. Aurelius, with interment in Glendale Cemetery.
