Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Dorn (Tarpoff) - Class Of 1939

Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Dorn, daughter of Henry (1885-1962) and Martha (Frederick) (1892-1987) Dorn, was born 15 June 1921 Ingham County, Michigan.  She graduated in 1939 from Okemos High School and married 27 June 1942 in Lansing, Ingham County,  Archie Vangel Tarpoff.

Miss Peggy Dorn of Okemos, who will marry Archie Tarpoff Saturday, was entertained at a miscellaneous shower last Wednesday evening at Archie's Grill.  Twenty-eight guests were present.  Mrs. George Osborne of Okemos, sister of the bride-elect, was hostess.

Archie, born 12 September 1913, died 1 June 2013.  He was a  US Army veteran of World War II.  Peggy died 21 March 2015.  They were interred Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, Ingham County.

Archie, 98, passed away June 1, 2013. He was born September 12, 1914, in Macedonia.

Archie moved to the Lansing area in 1923, and graduated from Eastern High School, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army.

He owned and operated Tarpoff's Restaurant and Catering and had also owned several other restaurants in the Lansing area.

Archie was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and was a former member of Walnut Hills Country Club and the Country Club of Lansing. In his younger years, he was a golfer and five time Country Club of Lansing Invitational Champion. He was also a softball pitcher, pitching 66 consecutive scoreless innings for the Oldsmobile team, and has been inducted in the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame

Archie was also a member of the Ingham Medical Center Signet Society.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Margaret "Peg" Tarpoff; 4 daughters, Linda Heldman of Scottsville, AZ, Leslie Peterman of East Lansing, Lori (Greg Welch) Tarpoff of Marquette, MI, and Lisa Tarpoff of St. Joseph; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lana Moore and grandson, Matt Heldman.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1701 E. Saginaw St., Lansing, with Fr. Mark Sietsema officiating. A Trisagion service was held.

Margaret, 93, passed away March 21, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of the Lansing area.

Peg was a past member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and is a current member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and the Ingham Medical Center Signet Society.

She dedicated her life to raising her 5 daughters. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was an excellent cook, and hosted many family gatherings.

Peg enjoyed traveling and taking vacations with her family.  She always put others first, and was always there for her family.

She was preceded in death by: her husband of 70 years, Archie in 2013; daughter, Lana Moore; grandson, Matt Heldman; brothers, Fred and Art Dorn; and sister, Eleanore “Nunie” Osborne.

Surviving are 4 daughters, Linda Heldman of Scottsdale, AZ, Leslie Peterman of East Lansing, Lori (Greg Welch) Tarpoff of Marquette, MI, and Lisa Tarpoff of St. Joseph; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Marlene) Dorn of Houghton Lake, son-in-law, Edward Moore, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church,
Lansing, with Fr. Mark Sietsema, PhD officiating. A Trisagion service was held.
