Melba May McCullough (Foley) - Class Of 1939

Melba May McCullough, daughter of William and Beulah May (Whitford) (1895-1929) McCullough, was born 24 February 1922 Owosso, Shiawassee County, Michigan.  Melba's mother succumbed to pulmonary tuberculosis when she was 7.  Melba stated on her 1939 marriage license that both of her parents were deceased and her father's full name was William Dairus McCullough.

MRS. BEULAH MAE MCCULLOUGH

Mrs. Beulah Mae McCullough, 34, wife of William McCullough, died at a local hospital Thursday morning.  Besides the husband she is survived by one daughter, Melba, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Whitford of Ashley, two brothers, Don of Flint and Nelson of Ashley, and two sisters, Mrs. Francis Scott and Mrs. Gladys Allen, both of Lansing.  She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church.  The body was removed to the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral home to await funeral services which will be held at North Star Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. F. L. Abbott officiating.  Interment will be at North Star.

The 1930 Ingham County, MIchigan US Federal Census placed Melba living with her aunt and uncle, Ismeal and Gladys (Whitford) Allen.

Melba graduated in 1939 from Okemos High School.  She married Charles Martin "Chuck" Cooper, an OHS classmate, 27 October 1929 Steuben County, Indiana.  A divorce decree from Ingham County Court, dated 10 August 1940, ended the short marriage.  Melba married Clyde Thomas Hollandsworth 28 September 1932 Mason, Ingham County.  The couple had two children, Clyde Jr. and Sue Katherine.  Sue Katherine was married and a mother of two when in 1968 she succumbed to injuries from an auto accident.

Melba and Clyde were divorced and Melba remarried after 1968 a man named Foley.  She died 11 October 1993 in Orange County, California.  Her son, Clyde Jr.,  lived in Huntington, Orange County.
