UNRUH, DORRIS E. (STACK)

LAINGBURG

Dorris Evelyn (Stack) Unruh passed on and has been reunited with her husband of 39 years, Maynard, and her daughter Ann, on August 16, 2001.  A survivor of breast and ovarian cancer, Dorris started life in Lansing, MI on September 12, 1918.  She graduated from Okemos high School in 1939 and married Maynard in June of 1940.  In the early years she cooked dinner for the many hired hands at their family farm on Marsh Road and cared for their 5 children.  As their children grew, Dorris was able to pursue her love for yard sales.  She followed yard sale signs from dawn 'till dusk on weekends.  Her enthusiasm was infectious - she never had to go alone!  In later years they resided near Round Lake in Laingsburg where Dorris was often seen fishing in her big straw hats.  She also spent many summers visiting her sisters in the Traverse City area.  When it became too difficult to travel, she was content to be at home with her 2 Boston Terriers, watching birds come to her feeders, and "The Young and the Restless."  Dorris is survived by 4 children, Ronald (Karen), Mary (James) Schneider, Evelyn (Gail) Estes and Henry "Dusty" (Beth); 1 son-in-law, Jack (Sue) Parks; 14 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Helen (Al) Stumpfig and Lucy Haggerty.  Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 20, at 2 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, with the Rev. Jeanne M. Randels, of Okemos Community Church, officiating.  Interment will follow in Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.
