LESLIE MISSES BIG DAVE

Leslie, suffering all season from the loss of their one-man show of a year ago, Dave Latter, has yet to win a league game.  Paton, who already has 55 points in four league games, should add materially to his total.  The only probably change in either lineup will be for the Chiefs, where Bob Mandenberg is slated to replace Gordon Southworth at one of the forward positions.  This will give Okemos an addition height advantage.

Bob joined the US Navy during World War II.  He was listed, at honorable discharge, as "Lt. JG US Navy."

Other Okemos-ites at the dance were Carl Mandenberg, home from his marine station at U. of M., and Ruth Woodworth and Bob Mandenberg, who is to be initiated into S. A. E. fraternity before leaving with the naval air corps in the near future.

After naval service Bob graduated 1949 from Michigan State College and then entered University of Michigan law school , graduating in 1952.  He married Elaine Irene Blasius 10 September 1946 in Highland Park, Wayne County, Michigan.  Bob in July 1967 was appointed municipal judge for the city of Alpena, Alpena County, Michigan.  He also served as a district court judge and one of his court cases made news even in Arizona.

ARROW HITS A CHAIR; JURY SAYS 'GUILTY'

Atlanta, Mich. - James T. Broomfield is president of the National Archery Association but no William Tell is he.

The 33-year-old Broomfield was found guilty Monday of mistakenly shooting a chair.

He was tried in Atlanta District Court on a charge of negligent use of a bow and arrow and was convicted by a jury.

The case began Oct. 3 when Norman T. Rende, 28, of St. Clair Shores, took to the woods during the deer season with a collapsible camp chair strapped to his back.

Testimony disclosed the Broomfield spotted Rende at a distance and mistook the chair legs for a deer's antlers.

He let fly with an arrow that imbedded itself in the chair but did not harm Rende.

Judge Robert Mandenberg set April 14 for sentencing.

Broomfield said sadly, "Rende looked more like a deer than a deer with that thing draped around his head."

Bob died 4 January 2004 and was interred Evergreen Cemetery, Alpena.
